Salary Grant Funding of Teacher Apprentices and Schools Direct Trainees.
Schools are able to utilise their Apprenticeship Levy to cover the costs of Initial Teacher Training (ITT) for their unqualified teachers. This is just one reason why schools like to grow their own talent, as costs are low and funding is also available to partially cover the salaries of their trainees.
Schools partner with e-Qualitas, as we train up in-school mentors and Apprentices over 12-months on their pathway to gaining QTS. eQ Apprentices have a 95% completion rate, and retention rates are high for graduates as they have trained and developed in situ.
Salary Grant Funding
- Schools are able to access ITT Salary Grant Funding to help pay the salaries of the unqualified Teacher Apprentices and Schools Direct Trainees working and training in their schools.
- There are often changes to this funding model on a yearly basis, and so we wanted to educate schools on what subjects will still attract Salary Grant Funding and which will not at this point in time.

Training fees apply to Initial Teacher Training Programmes. These are often covered by a school’s apprenticeship levy, or by accessing DfE funding for teacher training.
- Teacher Apprenticeship Programme: £9,000, payable by the employer school (a school can use its apprenticeship levy to cover fees)
- School Direct (Salaried) Programme: £8,500, payable by the employer school (VAT payable on fee if non-funded)
- School Direct (Tuition fee) Programme: £7,200, payable by the trainee (£6,000 + VAT with an optional disbursement of £2,000 – so a maximum fee of £9,200)
e-Qualitas’ team of ITT consultants can advise applicants and employer schools regarding fees, accessing apprenticeship levy and available DfE funding. Contact teachertraining@e-Qualitas.co.uk for more information.
